The Karachi Disability Network, with the support of the United Nations Population Fund under the FCDO-funded Aawaz II program, works to remove barriers faced by women with disabilities and reduce gender-based violence across Pakistan. The initiative improves access to essential services and information through a comprehensive approach that includes advocacy for inclusive policies, strengthening the capacity of service providers, awareness efforts, and psychosocial care for survivors. While the project is active in KP and Punjab, helpline-based psychosocial support is available to women nationwide.

Persons with disabilities in Pakistan continue to face significant challenges in meeting basic needs, often experiencing exclusion and difficult living conditions. Women with disabilities are at greater risk of violence due to limited ability to respond to unsafe situations. Gender-based violence remains a serious concern, with data from the Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey (2017–18) indicating that 34% of ever-married women have experienced spousal violence.

Addressing gender-based violence requires both public and private service providers to have strong knowledge, awareness, and practical skills, which are still lacking in many areas. There is also a need for coordinated protection systems and effective law enforcement responses. The Karachi Disability Network, with support from the United Nations Population Fund under the Aawaz II program, conducts awareness sessions for key stakeholders, with particular focus on improving services for persons with disabilities.
