For persons with disabilities, inaccessible environments significantly limit equal participation in society. KDN conducts accessibility audits to identify barriers and provide actionable recommendations for creating inclusive, barrier-free spaces.

KDN defines disability as the interaction between individuals with impairments and environmental or attitudinal obstacles that restrict full and effective participation in society on an equal basis. In line with the UNCRPD, persons with disabilities include those with long-term physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairments, which, when combined with barriers, may limit their societal engagement.

Persons with disabilities often face physical, social, economic, and attitudinal barriers that exclude them from education, employment, healthcare, legal support, and social services. They are disproportionately represented among vulnerable populations, yet disability considerations are frequently overlooked in mainstream development agendas. Accessibility audits aim to address this gap by highlighting practical solutions.

Key Features of Accessibility Audits:

  • Identify areas for improvement (e.g., improperly placed accessible toilets, missing accessible parking, or obstacles in entryways).
  • Assess the overall accessibility of buildings, facilities, or public spaces.
  • Highlight best practices and positive accessibility features (e.g., tactile signage, assistive listening devices, proper lighting, and color contrast).
